A consortium of major music labels and film studios are reportedly assembling a rescue package to save HMV from going out of business.

According to The Sunday Times, Universal Music, Warner Music and Sony are set to cut the price of CDs and DVDs, and give the failing retailer generous credit terms, to help it get back on its feet after falling into administration.

Universal Studios and Warner Studios are also reported to be behind the deal to prevent the company from going under. Industry sources claim the industry goliaths are desperate to keep a specialist high street outlet, such as HMV, to prevent cut-throat pricing from supermarkets and online stores.

A source told the newspaper:


They don’t want their only choice to be Tesco or Amazon

 

On Friday (January 18), it was reported that video games retailer Game had expressed an interest in buying HMV. Deloitte, who were called in to administrate the collapsed retailer on Tuesday (January 15) putting 4,000 jobs at risk, says it has received over 50 __EXPRESSION__s of interest in HMV. These include a "broad range" of parties including wealthy individuals, private equity groups and Game – which is targeting as many as 50 shops.

According to The Sunday Times report, the music and film industry consortium are believed to be favouring a bid by Hilco, an investor that specialises in struggling consumer businesses.

더 선데이 타임즈의 보도에 의하면, 유니버설 뮤직, 워너 뮤직과 소니가 그들의 CD와 DVD의 가격을 줄이고 소매상인에 좋은 신용에 넘겨주고 파산에 처한 HMV를 다시 살려내기 위해 돕고 있다.

유니버설 스튜디오와 워너 스튜디오가 회사의 무너짐을 막기 위해 돕고 있으며 산업 자료들에 의하면 산업계의 골리앗들이 HMV 같은 전문적인 아웃렛을 유지하면서 일반 마켓과 온라인을 통한 살인적인 가격을 막기 위해 필사적이다.

 

자료는, "그들은 그들의 유일한 선택권이 테스코나 아마존이 되기를 원치 않는다"고 신문에 말했다.

지난 금요일 (1월 18일), 비디오 게임 가게 Game이 HMV를 구매하는 것에 관심이 있다고 말했다. 딜로이트는 쓰러져가는 HMV의 행정을 4000건의 실업 위험을 무릎쓰더라도 하겠다는 입장을 밝혔으며 이미 HMV에 50건의 구매 관심을 보였다고 보도했다. 구매 관심을 보인 이들 중에는 재산가, 개인 주식 그룹 등 넓은 범위를 보였다.

 

더 선데이 타임즈의 보도에 의하면, 음반, 영화사 협회는 투자자 힐코에게 낙찰받는 것을 가장 원하고 있다고 말했다.
